Lancer Days School
McKnight Parents and Students are invited to attend a Community Ice Cream Social hosted by McKnight from
4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Wednesday, August 21, 2019.
WHEN and WHAT IS LANCER DAYS?
Lancer Days are scheduled for Tuesday, August 20th and Wednesday, August 21st. Important information specific to Lancer Days can be found on the other enclosed handout.
HOW DO WE GET MY STUDENT’S SCHEDULE AND LOCKER?
1. Return the enclosed Emergency Form and Student information form with updated information at Lancer Days.
a. Accurate forms are critical as they provide the information we need to support and ensure the safety of your student while in our care.
2. Return your student’s updated immunization record.
3. When both forms are turned in, you will receive your student’s schedule. Locker information is printed on your student’s schedule.
DOES MY STUDENT NEED VACCINATIONS?
6th grade parents, please make sure your vaccinations are updated with the school. Students are required to be current on all immunizations when he/she enters 6th grade. Forms are required before your student receives their schedule. If you have questions about this requirement, please contact Student Services @ 425-204-3615.
MY STUDENT HAS A LIFE THREATENING CONDITION, WHO SHOULD I CONTACT?
Please drop off completed emergency care and health plans with necessary medications to our nurse beginning August 11. Questions, please contact Joanna Menenberg, RN, School Nurse at 425-204-3602 or Joanna.firstname.lastname@example.org.
CAN WE TOUR THE BUILDING AND TRY OUR LOCKER?
Yes! We encourage you to a take school tour. ASB Leadership students and volunteers will be on hand during Lancer Days to provide tours for students and families. We also encourage your student to find their locker during Lancer Days and practice working the combination. Having a locker that does not open can be a huge stressor for students on the first day of school.
WHAT DO WE NEED TO PAY FOR?
Student who have the following electives have fees associated with their classes: Acoustic Guitar, Drama, Choir, Publications, Art, and Computers. Students are also required to purchase a McKnight Student Handbook and a PE Uniform if they have PE on their schedule. We recommend not purchasing a PE uniform if PE is not on your student’s first semester schedule.
Optional items are available including an ASB card (which is required for sports and non-academic afterschool clubs), yearbooks, and other McKnight Spirit items. Please review the order form and sample of items during Lancer Days.
WHAT ABOUT SCHOOL SUPPLIES?
Renton School District will be offering school supplies for students. The cost is a one time annual fee of $30 (or $10 for families on free/reduced lunch). The program is intended to simplify school supply purchasing and make the process more equitable, economical and efficient for families. You will still need to provide your student with a backpack and lunchbox. Supplies will include pencils, highlighters, pens, loose-leaf notebook aper, 3” binders, dividers, large eraser, pencil pouch, graph paper notebooks, folders, sticky notes, colored pencils and laptop earbuds. Purchasing school supplies from the district is not mandatory. If you choose to purchase your own supplies, the above list applies to what your student needs.
WHAT ABOUT BAND/ORCHESTRA INSTRUMENTS?
Your student will bring information home from their teacher the first week of school.
HOW CAN I PAY?
1. Payments accepted are checks, cash, money order, Visa or Mastercard, or debit card to Lancer Days.
2. Pay online at https://wa-renton.intouchreceipting.com/ and you will be able to pay using Visa or MasterCard. Your username is your student’s ID # and the password is the student’s last name (ALL IN CAPS). Be sure to print your receipt and bring it to Lancer Days to pick up your items. I HAVE MORE THAN ONE STUDENT?
You will be able to pay for them both at the same time, but please bring a separate order form for each student.
WHAT IS ASB?
The McKnight ASB is our student run organization that provides extracurricular cultural, athletic, recreational, and social activities for our students. These activities are funded by the purchase of an ASB card ($25/year) and by ASB Fundraisers. Supporting ASB means we are able to host dances, provide clubs, sports, as well as to support grade level extracurricular activities. ASB Cards are required for participation in Sports and Clubs. WHAT CLUB AND SPORTS ARE AVAILABLE AT MCKNIGHT?
McKnight offers a wide variety of afterschool clubs and sports. Representatives from some of our clubs will be available at Lancer Days so your student can learn about them. We offer the following sports: Boys and Girls Soccer, Boys and Girls Basketball, Volleyball, Wrestling, Flag Football, and Track. With the exception of Wrestling and Track, all of our sports are cut sports. Registration for sports is available on line at https://www.familyid.com/organizations/mcknight-middle-school. Students must have an ASB card and be clear of all fines to be eligible to participate in sports and clubs.
WHAT ARE THE MAIN OFFICE HOURS?
The main office opens on August 16th. The hours from August 16-27 are from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. The main office is closed for Lancer Days on August 20th and 21st. Regular office hours begin August 28th from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.
WHEN IS THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL?
The first day of school for all students is Wednesday, August 28, 2019.
WHERE DOES MY STUDENT GO THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL?
Starting on August 28th, the clock tower doors will be open for students to enter the building at 7:35 a.m. Students who picked up their schedules and locker information at Lancer Days will first need to put their belongings in their locker and proceed to their first period class. Students who do not have their schedule or locker information need to report directly to the Commons to pick up this information. We ask that any parents/guardians who have escorted their student to the Commons understand that we will need you to exit the building by 7:55 a.m. when classes begin.
WHEN IS SCHOOL PICTURE DAY?
Pictures are scheduled for August 20th and August 21st at both Lancer Days. A make up picture day is scheduled for September 4th and re-takes are scheduled for October 16th.
HOW MUCH ARE STUDENT LUNCHES?
The current prices for student lunches are Breakfast: $1.50; Milk $0.50; and Lunch is $3.00. You can put money on your student’s lunch account online, with our cafeteria staff or in the main office.
DOES MY STUDENT QUALIFY FOR FREE OR REDUCED LUNCH?
Free or Reduced Lunch forms are sent home with students on the first day of school or can be obtained in Student Services. Forms must be completed every year to qualify. Return the forms as soon as possible. Lunch charges will apply until the form is correctly completed and returned.
HOW DO I REACH MY STUDENT’S COUNSELOR?
School Counselors will be available during Lancer Days for questions. Otherwise, please contact Student Services at 425-204-3615 to make an appointment.
HOW DO I JOIN PTSA?
