Vision Statement

Welcome to the Home of the Lancers!

Mission Statement:

As a part of a large, diverse community of learners, McKnight Middle School will cultivate a student-centered environment in which academic excellence and life-long learning are nurtured. We will support the emotional, social, and physical needs of all students as they learn and grow.

The Lancer Way - Excellence, Integrity, Responsibility, and Respect.

McKnight Middle School is located in the Renton Highlands and serves students from the elementary schools of Hazelwood, Highlands, Honey Dew, Kennydale, Maplewood Heights, and Sierra Heights, in grades 6, 7, and 8.  In our core academic program, we provide rigorous, challenging learning experiences focused on building students' skills and knowledge aligned to Common Core State Standards.  In addition to our core program, we provide service to English Language Learners (ELL) and to students with mild, moderate, or severe disabilities, and also utilize the three-tiered reading and math models developed by the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) for students who need additional support in reading and math.  For students who qualify as highly capable, we have a Discovery program in Language Arts and Social Studies serving close to 60 students in each grade.  We have many talented students in our diverse student body - it is quite common for a third or more of our students to achieve the academic honor roll  (3.0 GPA or higher on our Standards-Based Grading scale).  A large number of students participate in band, orchestra, choir, and art programs, as well as a multitude of after-school activities and athletics.  McKnight was recognized nationally as a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence in 1985, and was recognized by the State of Washington in 2010-11 for improvement in Math and Science, and 2011-12 for improvement in Science.  Our commitment to instructional excellence and student achievement continues every day.
